Fertilization
A 5-application turf program timed to Central Ohio's growing cycle, for thick, green lawns that crowd out weeds without surge-and-crash growth.
Professional fertilization for Columbus, Ohio properties.
A green, healthy lawn doesn't happen by accident. Our 5-application fertilization program is built specifically for Central Ohio's clay-heavy soils, cool-season turf, and the seasonal stress patterns that come with Columbus weather. Each application is professionally formulated and timed to match what your lawn actually needs at that point in the growing cycle, not generic feedings sold by the bag at a big-box store.
- Five precisely-timed applications across the growing season
- Professional-grade slow-release blends tuned for Ohio Zone 6a
- Broadleaf weed control and crabgrass pre-emergent included free
- Surface insect control included free (helps prevent fleas and ticks)
- Visible color and density improvement within the first season

What's covered in your turf care program
Five feedings plus three no-charge inclusions: broadleaf weed control, crabgrass pre-emergent, and surface insect control.
Early-spring feeding
Wakes turf from dormancy with a balanced starter blend and pre-emergent for crabgrass.

Late-spring strengthener
Slow-release nitrogen plus broadleaf weed control for dandelions, clover, and chickweed.
Summer protection
Heat-stress formulation with iron that holds deep color through July without forcing tender growth.
Early-fall recovery
Aggressive feed to repair summer damage and drive recovery growth into October.
Late-fall winterizer
Root-focused application that stores energy for next spring's first flush.
Spot weed treatment
Targeted post-emergent passes between applications when problem weeds break through.
Surface insect control
Included free with the program. Helps prevent fleas and ticks in the turf your family and pets actually use.
Service notes
Detailed visit notes left after every application: what was applied, what we noticed, what to do.

The 5-application schedule, explained
Our program runs five strategically timed visits between April and November. Early spring (late March to April) feeds emerging grass and drops pre-emergent before crabgrass germinates. Late spring (mid to late May) strengthens turf for summer with broadleaf control. Summer (mid-July) keeps color while protecting roots from heat. Early fall (September) drives recovery growth. Fall is when cool-season grasses do most of their root work. Late fall (November) is the winterizer that builds energy reserves for next spring's first flush. Skipping any one of these creates a noticeable gap.
Weed control that targets the right weeds at the right time
Spring crabgrass needs pre-emergent applied before soil temps hit 55°F, usually mid to late April in Columbus. Broadleaf weeds (dandelions, clover, plantain) need post-emergent in late spring when they're actively growing. Nutsedge needs different products entirely. We integrate these treatments into your program so you're not paying for separate weed control packages, and we use professional products that work faster and last longer than retail equivalents.

Grub prevention is non-negotiable in Central Ohio
Japanese beetle and masked chafer grubs are endemic in Central Ohio. If you've had brown patches in late summer that lift up like carpet, you've had a grub problem. Preventive grub control goes down in the mid-June to July window, before larvae hatch and start feeding, and one preventive treatment is dramatically more effective and less expensive than rescuing a lawn after the damage is done. It's priced as its own single application, separate from the base five. See our grub control page for the timing and the tells.
Why professional fertilizer outperforms big-box bags
Retail fertilizers are designed to be safe for inexperienced users, which means lower nitrogen concentrations, more filler, and limited slow-release content. Professional blends use coated, slow-release nitrogen that feeds steadily for 8 to 12 weeks instead of dumping nutrients all at once. The result is sustained, even growth instead of the surge-mow-burn cycle you get from over-the-counter products. You also get the right N-P-K ratio for our soils, not the generic 'lawn' formulation sold nationwide.
Built for Central Ohio clay soils
Most lawns inside the I-270 belt sit on heavy, slightly acidic clay. That soil compacts easily, drains slowly, and binds nutrients tightly. Our program accounts for that, using sulfur-coated urea, ammonium sulfate, and chelated micronutrients that stay plant-available in our soils. Pair the program with annual core aeration and you transform clay-bound turf into the kind of thick, lush lawn that actually outcompetes weeds on its own.
Sign up before your spring window closes
The first application has to land before soil temps hit 55°F. That's the window when crabgrass pre-emergent works. Miss it and you're playing defense against weeds all summer. Lock in your slot now to get the early-spring application on schedule.
Get on the schedule- Pre-emergent timing is non-negotiable for crabgrass control
- First application drives the visible color jump in May
- Bundle with mowing now for the fastest visible transformation

Fertilization, answered.
Real questions from real Central Ohio customers. If yours isn't here, you have three fast ways to reach us.
01When does the program start?
The first application typically lands in late March or early April, depending on spring soil temperatures. We time it to land before crabgrass germination begins.
02Is the fertilizer safe for kids and pets?
Yes. Professional-grade products are safe for families and pets once the application has dried, typically within 1 to 2 hours. We leave a yard sign reminding you to wait until dry.
03Will I see results the first season?
Yes, most customers see noticeably greener, thicker turf within the first 4 to 6 weeks. The full transformation (density, weed-out, fewer bare spots) takes a full season with all five applications.
04What's included in the weed control portion?
Pre-emergent (spring) for crabgrass and annual weeds, post-emergent (late spring) for broadleaf weeds like dandelion and clover, plus spot treatments between applications as needed.
05Do you treat for grubs?
Yes, as a separately priced single application. It's not part of the base five. The preventive product goes down in the mid-June to July window, before larvae hatch, which is far more effective than reactive treatment after damage shows. Details are on our grub control page.
06Can I combine fertilization with mowing service?
Absolutely. Most of our customers bundle mowing and fertilization, and many add aeration and seasonal cleanup. Bundle pricing applies.
07What if a treatment damages my lawn?
Professionally applied programs don't burn lawns when timed and dosed correctly. If a treatment ever causes visible damage, we will re-treat or repair the area at no charge.
08Do I need aeration too?
If your soil is compacted (most Central Ohio lawns are), aeration dramatically improves fertilizer uptake. We recommend pairing the program with annual fall core aeration for best results.
