Tree & Shrub Care

Seasonal pruning, shaping, and plant health care that keeps your trees and shrubs vigorous and well-formed.

Overview

Professional tree & shrub care for Columbus, Ohio properties.

Trees and shrubs are the structure of your landscape, and the most expensive plants to replace when they decline. Proper, well-timed pruning keeps ornamentals healthy, encourages strong form, and prevents the kind of neglect that leads to disease, storm damage, and overgrown sightlines. Our crews prune for plant health first and appearance always, working to the natural habit of each species rather than shearing everything into the same green meatball.

  • Every shrub pruned to your specified height, width, and shape
  • Deadwood, sucker, and crossing-branch removal
  • Shaping for clean sightlines and balanced form
  • Plant-health-focused cuts timed to the species
  • All clippings cleaned up and hauled off site

Deep dive

Why we thin instead of shear

Shearing everything into tidy globes looks neat for a week and quietly harms the plant. Repeated shearing creates a dense outer shell that shades out the interior, weakens the plant, and invites disease. We prune to the natural structure of each species, thinning to let light and air into the canopy, removing deadwood, and making clean cuts at the right points. You set the target height, width, and shape; our job is getting the plant there with cuts it can sustain. The result is healthier plants that hold their shape longer and resist pests and disease.

Why it matters

Timing matters in Central Ohio

When you prune is as important as how. Most structural and heavy pruning is best done during dormancy in late winter, when plants aren't stressed and pests are inactive. Spring bloomers like lilac and forsythia are pruned right after they flower so you don't cut off next year's buds. Light shaping and clearance can happen through the season. We work to each plant's calendar so cuts help rather than hurt.

Protecting your biggest plant investment
In the field

Protecting your biggest plant investment

A mature tree or established shrub bed represents years of growth and real money to replace. Routine pruning protects that investment: it catches dieback, scale, and borer damage early, keeps branches off your roof and walkways, reduces storm-damage risk, and maintains the form that made the plant worth installing. Neglected woody plants are far more expensive to rehabilitate or replace than to maintain.

§

When a plant needs more than pruning

Sometimes a shrub is too far gone, planted in the wrong spot, or fighting a site problem no pruning can fix. We'll say so rather than keep billing pruning visits on a plant that won't recover. For larger or hazardous trees that require climbing or removal, we'll coordinate the right specialist rather than overpromise.

Dormant & Growing Season

The right cut at the right time

Heavy structural pruning is best in late winter dormancy; spring bloomers get pruned right after flowering; light shaping and clearance run through the season. We schedule each plant to its ideal window.

Frequently asked

Tree & Shrub Care, answered.

Real questions from real Central Ohio customers. If yours isn't here, you have three fast ways to reach us.

01

How often should shrubs be pruned?

Most ornamental shrubs benefit from pruning once or twice a year, timed to the species. We'll recommend a cadence for your specific plants.

02

Can you keep shrubs at a specific height and width?

Yes. Every shrub is pruned to the specification you set on the walkthrough. Boxwood, yew, and privet tolerate tight, repeated shaping; for plants like viburnum or hydrangea we hit your target with thinning cuts so the plant stays healthy at that size.

03

When is the best time to prune?

Heavy pruning is best in late winter dormancy. Spring-flowering shrubs are pruned right after they bloom so you don't remove next year's flowers.

04

Do you remove large trees?

We handle ornamental and small-tree pruning. For large or hazardous tree removal requiring climbing, we coordinate a qualified specialist.

05

Will pruning hurt my plants?

Proper, well-timed pruning improves plant health. Our crews prune to each species' natural form rather than shearing, which protects the plant.

06

Do you haul away the debris?

Yes. All prune clippings and limbs are cleaned up and hauled off site, and we leave beds and turf clean.

07

What areas do you serve?

We provide tree and shrub care throughout Central Ohio including Lewis Center, Dublin, Powell, Westerville, Hilliard, Delaware, and Columbus.
